Considered in a certain light, the amazing progress of the human race, notwithstanding a few tragic setbacks, can be understood as the discovery of, and the constant improvements to what might best be referred to as 'Force Multipliers'. I should think the term would be clear in its meaning.
Simple examples of physical 'force multipliers' are pulleys, fulcrum and lever, steam, internal combustion, electricity, the internet.
There are 'force multipliers' in other areas of our lives which may be of greater import than their physical counterparts.
One thing worth considering when attempting to understand how 'force multipliers' came to exist in the first place, is why did all of these 'force multipliers' come about spontaneously?
The social 'force multipliers' like money, trade, language, etc. are the ones which really give progress a significant boost.
In Jurassic Park Jeff Goldblum's character at one point says: "Nature always finds a way."
I hope the same can be said for us as a species: 'Humanity always finds a way.'
