In Plato's famous treatise 'The Republic' he lays out his plan for the perfect society.
One primary element of his plan involves the placement of specially trained philosophers as kings over the rest of the population.
This notion has seen a revival in our time with the suggestion that the experts should rule over the rest of us.
The idea is just as bad today as it was in Plato's Greece.
This is not to suggest that we should ignore the counsel of either philosophers or experts.
It is rather to suggest that we would be wise never to abandon our sovereignty or freedom to choose.
