The Arrogance and Ignorance of Socialism

When one takes an account of all the successful developments in social systems, they realize that not a one of them was planned or designed by any person or group of persons. Instead, they came to exist spontaneously without guide or guidance. It was simply the result of millions of people acting independently of one another, in their own self-interest and without understanding the implications of their actions.

I am thinking of such developments as language, markets, money, and law.

On the other hand, every attempt by man to design and create social systems has proven a dismal failure. The failed Esperanza language experiment for instance. However, probably no better examples exist than those of Socialism and Communism.

These centrally planned systems have failed abysmally wherever and whenever they have been tried. The reasons for their inevitable failure are several.

First and foremost, is the fact that they both fail miserably in their comprehension of human nature.

I believe it was E. O. Wilson who observed, 'Socialism: Great idea. Wrong species.'

The second reason and the one under consideration here is that they are always centrally planned and controlled by a small group of intellectuals and are in no way spontaneous.
