One thing is certain for you and I; we are prone to error in our judgments and assessments of situations, events, and people. Since this is the case it is crucial that we have some mechanism available to correct these errors and get back on the right intellectual course.
All moving objects created by man have mechanisms for course correction. Radar and sonar are used for just such purposes as well as being useful for detecting and tracking other objects.
The mechanism for course or error correction for you and I consists of skepticism, a devotion to the truth and a willingness to work hard to find it.
Skepticism is the inclination to be cautious in what we accept as the truth in any situation. It's a refusal to be naive or gullible.
A devotion to the truth involves preferring the discovery of truth to our being right in any given situation.
And finally we must commit to do what is required to discover the truth regardless of what we think or feel about it. We must be devoted to the truth and a correct understanding of it, above all else.
