'Trust the experts' has been on the lips of many these days. And, while it most certainly is true that we do well to seriously consider the opinions of those trained in a particular discipline, it is just as true that the experts often get things wrong. 

Those of us living in the west today have a great advantage over those living in unadvanced societies around the globe or in earlier times.

We have an almost unlimited amount of knowledge available to us at our fingertips. We therefore have no excuse for being ignorant regarding anything of interest or importance to us.

My point being that while the expertise of professionals should be taken full advantage of, we bear responsibility for carefully analyzing all opinions and arriving at those decisions we find most compelling.

Also, when a person is addressing a topic which is not their area of specialty, there opinion is no more to be considered than that of any other reasonably intelligent person.
