Leave it to the French in the person of Jean Jacque Rousseau to come up with a nonsensical explanation regarding what you and I owe to society.
The notion is that at some point persons unidentified agreed to a contract which placed social obligations upon all of us.
This is utter rubbish, fabricated by minds too smart for their own good, and capable of making fine and superficially sound arguments for ridiculous ideas.
Some even go so far as to claim that our Constitution is just such a contract, which all have agreed to either explicitly or implicitly.
The Constitution was only a social contract for those few men who signed it.
It has no authority over the rest of us beyond what we allow it. If it were a social contract why is brute force required to get us to comply with it.
I have little respect for the Constitution and consider it nothing more than 'a parchment barricade' as James Madison referred to it.
